On the ruins of the United States of America it is built Panem.
Panem consists of twelve districts, (initially thirteen, but the last one was destroyed and crushed after a failed rebellion), and the Capitol, the one that rules the rest.
The Capitol enjoy a life in an insulting welfare, while the rest of the districts suffer poverty, starvation and decayment.
Each district supplies the Capitol in different ways. From jewels , food, energy, to coal (the specialty of distirict 12)
This led to a rebellion of the districts against the Capitol. But Capitol defeated the rest. As a punishment and reminder of who rules they settled the Hunger Games.
Those games are a reality show in which the so called TRIBUTES (a boy and a girl from each district are chosen to have the "honor" of representing their district in the games) fight each other until only one of them survives and declared the Victor.
In this edition Katniss Everdeen and his mate Peeta will take part representing district 12.
This year's edition of the games involves a change in the rules that leads to an unexpected final.
A suggestion by a librarian made me choose this novel by Suzanne Collins. I'm really grateful now.
Sometimes, I found some passages of the novel a bit difficult to understand. But, in general it's easy to read. A story of desperate survival in which loyalty and moral values have their place.
This trilogy has been adapted to the cinema.
A highly recommendable reading for the lovers of Science-Fiction.
